Folk ArtThe Art That Fits in Your Palm
Exploring the 400-year tradition of Rajasthani miniature painting and how Kissa is keeping it alive on contemporary fashion.

The shirt pocket is arguably the most overlooked real estate in fashion. A rectangle of fabric, sewn onto the chest, designed to hold pens, glasses, or nothing at all.
But at Kissa, we see something different. We see a frame.
The tradition of painting on small surfaces is ancient in India. Miniature paintings — some no larger than a playing card — were created in royal courts across Rajasthan, the Deccan, and the Mughal Empire. These tiny masterpieces contained entire worlds: love stories, battle scenes, divine encounters, all rendered in breathtaking detail within a space you could cover with your palm.
The pocket is our miniature frame. And the stories we paint on them are drawn from the same deep well of Indian visual storytelling that produced those court paintings centuries ago.
