In the courts of Rajasthan, size was never a measure of significance. The most powerful stories were told in the smallest spaces.

Rajasthani miniature painting emerged in the 16th century as a distinct school of Indian art. Unlike the grand murals of Ajanta or the monumental sculptures of Khajuraho, miniature paintings were intimate, portable, and deeply personal.

They depicted everything from divine love stories (particularly the romance of Radha and Krishna) to court scenes, hunting expeditions, musical performances, and the changing seasons. The artists who created them were not anonymous craftsmen — they were celebrated masters whose work was commissioned by kings.
